Aaron Deter-Wolf is a Prehistoric Archaeologist with the State of Tennessee's Division of Archaeology. His recent projects include excavations at a Late Pleistocene mastodon butchering site near Nashville, investigations of prehistoric shell-bearing sites along the Cumberland River, and research into the archaeological evidence for ancient tattooing. His research has been funded in part by grants from the National Science Foundation and the Tennessee Historical Commission.

In addition to his work for the State of Tennessee, Aaron is an adjunct professor in the department of Sociology and Anthropology at Middle Tennessee State University, and a member of the curatorial team for the exhibition "Tattoo: Ancient Myths, Modern Meanings." He regularly gives presentations on his research, archaeology in general, and Tennessee's prehistoric past for university, school, community, and avocational interest groups.
